Wow! Michelle and Eric - you guys are amazing and you continue to surprise me with the energy you have. Michelle - this is a great list. Thank you for taking the time to compile it. There is so much a company can do on social media. You just have to start somewhere, start small and grow your efforts. Thank you for the post and for the great info! I'd be sure to follow some of it.

You bring up a great point Eric! I didn't mention a thing about other niche social networks - I would love to spend more time digging into places like Ning to see what's relevant and there are industry specific networks - like snowboard.com and newschoolers.com that I'd love to visit more regularly. There are plenty of places that aren't indexed by the search engines where people are also talking about brands... actually I did put a link to a tool called Radian6 that actually does monitor a good deal of forums and other networks. It's a great tool and if my company were larger and I didn't feel I had a handle on the listening without it I'd recommend using it in a heartbeat.

Michelle, this is a great list, because you filled it with easily actionable ideas for companies to enact with social media. I too wish that I had time to enact many of these things, but it seems like it is always a case of too little time and too much to do...
For me, my biggest challenge with social media, is simply staying current with trends and new opportunities, such as: on which networks can our business gain the most by actively engaging and where should we be just monitoring.
In any case, it is exciting to be involved in this space because I am convinced that there isn't really "right" or "wrong" ways to "do" social media as a company, just ways that are "better" or "not as good" for each particular business or person. Thanks again for compiling some wonderful ideas to consider here!

A very well-organized compilation of the best ways to utilize social media venues in order to get any message across. Granted, it takes a lot of both time and effort to actually reach your goal since one should not expect long-term value unless he invests in long-term goals.
